Where to stay

Just three doors down from our new station at Blaenavon (High Level)is the Oakfield. A call to Paul and Heidi on 01495 792829 or an email to oakfieldbnb@tesco.net will get you a warm welcome at Oakfield B&B, rebuilt from a pair of traditional bay-windowed terrace houses, and beautifully decorated within.. Oakfield B&B is a member of the Torfaen Tourism Association.
At the bottom of the hill from our new station is the Queen Victoria Inn B&B – and under new management. A real local pub, frequented by local people, who are happy for you to join in and share the local gossip. Call 01495 791652 – Nischa or Jason are your hosts or email them at: nischahp1@hotmail.com The beer there has been personally accredited by the webmaster!
A bit further afield, near Pontypool, is Rectory B&B at www.walesbnb.com Angela and Bryan have something a little bit special in this beautifully modernised grade 2 listed building, which is less than 200m from the peaceful, winding, Mon. and Brec. Canal. Rectory B&B is a member of the Torfaen Tourism Association.

Our local watering hole….

Not a place to stay, and not even a link, but this is our local watering hole at the top of the line. Beer, good company and absolutely gigantic meals. Slightly off the beaten track, and therefore missed by many. Indeed, this is the pub about which Michael Caine might have said ‘Not a lot of tourists know that!’ Locally famous for its collection of miner’s lamps hanging from the roof beams. Our top station, Whistle Inn Halt opens directly onto the garden, which is well stocked with children’s amusements, which can be used by young passengers even when the pub is closed. The pub is not usually open at Saturday lunchtime,but you can book a meal on Saturday night or on Sunday by calling Cliff or Rose on 01495 7903
